Things Done May 30

  1. Spent some time coming up with new business card designs
  2. Went to International Children's Festival in St. Albert.
  3. Contacted Alliah and Trudy and Melody for any FACTSnet position specific procedures I might need to add to the Manual
  4. Researched on anything that might be good to help replace AnyMeeting with.
  5. Still looking into seeing what type of technology might be good for shared communications (something a little more organized than Blogger). I am starting to think that it is not Blogger that is the problem so much as how we use it. I think we are not using it to it's full potential. I need to do more research.

FACTSnet Technical Coordinator and Executive Assistant

Currently I hold the position of Technical Coordinator for Community Networks. My main duties consist of training other FACTSnet employees how to Blogger, set up email accounts, and help problem solve any other issues that might come up (e.g. being the liaison between NAIT and FACTSnet). I work as part of a team to make sure that any technological problems are solved and new technologies implemented.

The main goal of my position is to demonstrate the importance of technology in creating communities. By helping spread understanding on how important the role technology plays in creating communities, we can create an important network of resources to support families, teachers, students, etc.

One of the ways I am doing this is to create standardized training manuals and procedures for everyone at FACTSnet to use. I am also working with the Centralta Tourism Society to help them digitally archive some of their history books. I will also be visiting the International Children’s Festival in St. Albert to promote FACTSnet and the networking resources and opportunities we provide.

Another position I currently hold with FACTSnet is the one of Executive Director. In this position, I am responsible for helping edit blogger posts, and coordinating the different groups that are all working for FACTSnet. I coordinate meetings and help with resolving issues that any FACTSnet team member may encounter. In short, my job is to see what needs to be done and make sure that the appropriate people do complete that task.

Things Done May 21

  1. Success! It took me 5 hours of debugging and research, but I managed to figure out the script and get rid of almost all the "Stop using my easing script" error messages. There were three that I couldn't seem to fix because I couldn't access the template. (Canadian Non-Profit Network, FACTSnet Beta 2, FACTS Blank Blog).
  2. Took longer than I thought to update the blogs, a whole 2 hrs of weeding through and performing the script updates.
  3. Sent email to Jeanette to book the rooms for July
  4. Phoned Melody and Judy, a meeting is set up for the three of us at 10:00 am at NAIT
  5. Sent out emails with links for others to join in on the AnyMeeting meeting tomorrow at 1:00
  6. Added Brandon to the hsummers working blog admin list

Things To Do May 21

The list today consists of:
  • Email Jeannette to book the room for July
  • Confirm meeting date for tomorrow
  • Take a look through the blog template files to try to get rid of the script error message.

Things To Do May 17

I will be taking the morning off.

I will still show up to the meeting as planned though. (3:30?)

Things Done May 16

  1. Phoned NAIT for Steve's number. Phoned and left a message, still no reply.
  2. There are no training manuals found on the FACTSnet Google drives, perhaps they are stored elsewhere
  3. Drafted something to email the schools with.

Things To Do May 16

  1. Draft an email/letter explaining what we are doing and how schools could be involved.
  2. Phone NAIT to see if I can get contact phone number for Steve
  3. Need to email Ernie again to see if he's gotten a reply from CSJ
  4. Take a look through the different FACTSnet google drives to see if I can find all the training documents that were made in the past. End goal: Create a unified document (or more) that is easy to understand and organized so that future FACTSnet employees have a resource to turn to if there are any questions/issues that pop up.

Things Done May 15

Things that can be crossed off the list today are:

  1. Experimented with a CMS (i.e. Joomla) to see if it is a viable option for FACTnet as a way to better organize the blogs as well as facilitate discussions among members. (Verdict: Blogger is still better, if only because it's more intuitive for everyone to learn.)
  2. Played around with layout options in Blogger to see if I can make my own template (answer: No)
  3. Created 2 new email accounts for FACTnet summer jobs
  4. Started a draft copy of the post for factsum blog page in regards to the Technical Coordinator for Community Networks position.
Things Outstanding:
  1. Waiting for confirmation from Steve for the meeting on Fri. I will phone the NAIT DMIT office tomorrow to ask for his phone number and try to reach him that way.
  2. Waiting for Ernie to get back to me about job info (especially I need to submit the forms to NAIT by this Fri)
  3. Waiting for the edited copy of the Grey Nuns digital book.

Week to date hours: 24

Things To Do May 15

1. Factsum post
2. Attempt to create custom blogger template
3. Waiting for Steve to get back to me.

Things Done May 14

Okay, Steve Chattargoon has been contacted about the meeting on the 17th. As for "discussion" methods in Blogger, it appears that there are only a couple ways of doing this:

  1. Comment threads
  2. Grou Blogs (where multiple people are authorized to contribute)
  3. Third party commenting systems (e.g.DISQUS). However, from what I can see, the third party commenting systems are fairly similar to native commenting options.
Things that are still outstanding are:

  • Heritage Space discussions will have to take place on Friday
  • Waiting for editing to be done on the Grey Nuns book
Total Week-To-Date Hours: 16

Things To Do May 14

Let's see, where is my list...ah, yes, here it is:

  • Check with Colette to make sure the book is on the way
  • Contact Dave to see what exactly is needed for Heritage Space, get Mehemet to email me contact  info for person who might be able to help find space for equipment
  • Phone Jeannette about Steve's contact info
  • Organize Google Docs
  • Research "discussion" options for Blogger
